Braley Care Homes was created from a father and son’s passion for quality assisted living in a home-like environment, spawned from their experience in the mental health field.
Chris and Dean Braley opened Braley Care Homes on March 29, 2005. Braley Care Homes expanded into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and, memory care services in 2008. Chris Braley is the owner and administrator of Braley Care Homes and it remains the only free-standing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and memory care facility in West Virginia. Our facility was built with dementia care in mind and is the ideal environment for someone with this disease. It is locked 24 hours per day and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a pastoral view, which is secure at all times.
Our memory care activities and behavior programming is geared toward meeting each individual’s needs, which helps keep their anxiety level down and reduces the risk of behavior issues.
Chris Braley has a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work and is an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker). Chris shares, “dementia is not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. My grandmother and father suffered from dementia, so I know the pain the families go through as they watch helplessly as their love one suffers. Our goal at Braley Care Homes is to tap into each resident’s unique qualities and help bring a calmness to both their life and their family’s life.

I have only great memories of the great care my husband received. Never heard an unkind word to anyone there. This care home facility is wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Braley, for all you do and your staff. God's blessing continue to be with you all.

I’ve worked there and I’ve seen how the residents are treated. Staff love their jobs and you can tell. Owner is great with residents too. They do a wide variety of activities and even a pet dog.

In the journey of memory care living, relationships stand as pillars of support, comfort, and joy. For individuals navigating memory loss, the significance of meaningful connections cannot be overstated. In this blog, we delve into the profound importance of relationships within memory care communities, exploring how they foster a sense of belonging, enhance quality of life, and ultimately contribute to peace of mind for residents and their families.
At the heart of memory care living lies the essence of relationships. Whether it's the bond between residents, the connections forged with caregivers, or the cherished relationships with family and friends, these interpersonal connections form the foundation of a supportive and nurturing environment. In a world where memories may fade, the warmth of human connection remains steadfast, offering solace and companionship.
Within memory care communities, fostering a sense of belonging is paramount. Through shared experiences, mutual understanding, and genuine companionship, residents find comfort in knowing they are part of a community where they are valued and accepted. From group activities to communal meals, every interaction serves to strengthen the sense of belonging and create a supportive social network.
Relationships have the power to enrich and enhance the quality of life for individuals in memory care. Whether it's sharing laughter with friends, reminiscing about past experiences, or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments of connection bring joy and fulfillment to residents' lives. Through meaningful relationships, individuals find purpose, meaning, and a renewed sense of vitality.
In the midst of memory loss, emotions can run deep and sometimes turbulent. Yet, within the embrace of supportive relationships, residents find solace and emotional comfort. Caregivers and fellow residents provide a compassionate ear, a shoulder to lean on, and a source of empathy and understanding. These relationships serve as emotional anchors, helping individuals navigate the ups and downs of their journey with grace and resilience.
While memories may fade, the moments shared with loved ones endure forever. Within memory care communities, every interaction, every conversation, and every shared experience becomes a cherished memory. Whether it's a heartfelt conversation with a caregiver or a joyful gathering with friends, these moments create lasting impressions that bring comfort and solace, even in the face of memory loss.
Being a caregiver for a loved one with memory loss can be both rewarding and challenging. It requires patience, compassion, and a deep understanding of the individual's needs. However, caregivers often find themselves in need of support and assistance to navigate the complexities of providing care while maintaining their own well-being. In memory care living, there are various support systems in place to empower caregivers and ensure they have the resources they need to thrive in their role
Respite Care Services: One of the most valuable support systems available to caregivers in memory care living is respite care. This service offers caregivers the opportunity to take a break from their caregiving responsibilities while their loved one receives temporary care in a professional setting. Whether for a few hours or a few days, respite care provides caregivers with much-needed rest and rejuvenation, allowing them to return to their role feeling refreshed and better equipped to provide care.
Educational Resources: Knowledge is power, especially for caregivers navigating the challenges of memory loss. Memory care communities often provide access to educational resources and training programs designed to help caregivers understand the condition and learn effective caregiving techniques. From workshops on communication strategies to seminars on coping with caregiver stress, these resources empower caregivers with the information and skills they need to provide the best possible care for their loved one.
Support Groups: Caregiving can be an isolating experience, but it doesn't have to be. Many memory care communities offer support groups where caregivers can connect with others who are facing similar challenges. These support groups provide a safe space for caregivers to share their experiences, seek advice, and find emotional support from peers who understand what they're going through. By fostering a sense of community and camaraderie, support groups help caregivers feel less alone and more empowered in their caregiving journey.
Caregiver Counseling: Caring for a loved one with memory loss can take a toll on caregivers' mental and emotional well-being. That's why many memory care communities offer caregiver counseling services to provide individualized support and guidance. Whether through one-on-one counseling sessions or group therapy sessions, caregivers have access to trained professionals who can help them navigate the complex emotions and challenges associated with caregiving. By prioritizing caregivers' mental health, memory care communities empower them to cope with stress, grief, and other difficult emotions in a healthy and constructive way.
Resources for Legal and Financial Planning: Memory care communities understand that caregiving involves more than just providing physical and emotional support—it also requires careful planning and preparation for the future. That's why many memory care communities offer resources and assistance for legal and financial planning. Whether it's help navigating Medicaid eligibility, setting up a special needs trust, or creating an advance directive, caregivers can access the information and support they need to make informed decisions and ensure their loved one's long-term care needs are met.
