Braley Care Homes was created from a father and son’s passion for quality assisted living in a home-like environment, spawned from their experience in the mental health field.
Chris and Dean Braley opened Braley Care Homes on March 29, 2005. Braley Care Homes expanded into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and, memory care services in 2008. Chris Braley is the owner and administrator of Braley Care Homes and it remains the only free-standing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and memory care facility in West Virginia. Our facility was built with dementia care in mind and is the ideal environment for someone with this disease. It is locked 24 hours per day and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a pastoral view, which is secure at all times.
Our memory care activities and behavior programming is geared toward meeting each individual’s needs, which helps keep their anxiety level down and reduces the risk of behavior issues.
Chris Braley has a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work and is an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker). Chris shares, “dementia is not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. My grandmother and father suffered from dementia, so I know the pain the families go through as they watch helplessly as their love one suffers. Our goal at Braley Care Homes is to tap into each resident’s unique qualities and help bring a calmness to both their life and their family’s life.

I have only great memories of the great care my husband received. Never heard an unkind word to anyone there. This care home facility is wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Braley, for all you do and your staff. God's blessing continue to be with you all.

I’ve worked there and I’ve seen how the residents are treated. Staff love their jobs and you can tell. Owner is great with residents too. They do a wide variety of activities and even a pet dog.

Memory care services stand at the intersection of compassion and expertise, offering vital support for individuals living with memory-related conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease. At the core of these services lies empathy – the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. In this article, we delve into the profound impact of empathy within memory care settings, exploring how it shapes every aspect of care and enhances the lives of residents and their families.
Empathy forms the foundation of quality memory care, guiding caregivers in their interactions with residents. It involves not only recognizing the challenges individuals face due to memory loss but also connecting with them on an emotional level. This empathetic connection fosters trust, comfort, and a sense of security, which are invaluable for individuals navigating the complexities of cognitive decline.
Effective communication lies at the heart of empathy-driven care. Memory care providers utilize patience, active listening, and non-verbal cues to communicate with residents in ways that resonate with their experiences and emotions. Whether it's reminiscing about cherished memories or offering reassurance during moments of confusion, compassionate communication cultivates meaningful connections and promotes emotional well-being.
Empathy empowers memory care professionals to recognize the unique needs and preferences of each resident. By tailoring care plans to align with individual strengths, interests, and abilities, caregivers create an environment where residents feel valued and understood. Whether engaging in therapeutic activities, assisting with daily tasks, or providing companionship, personalized support honors the dignity and autonomy of every individual.
The impact of empathy extends beyond residents to their families, who often navigate the emotional challenges of caring for a loved one with memory loss. Memory care services offer a compassionate shoulder to lean on, providing families with guidance, education, and emotional support throughout their journey. By fostering open communication and collaboration, caregivers help families navigate transitions, cope with uncertainty, and find moments of joy amidst the difficulties.
In memory care communities, empathy is not just a skill but a culture that permeates every interaction and decision. From staff training programs focused on empathy-building to the design of physical spaces that promote emotional well-being, every aspect of the environment is intentionally crafted to nurture empathy. This culture of empathy fosters a sense of belonging, acceptance, and understanding, enriching the lives of residents and fostering a supportive community.
Caring for a loved one with memory loss, whether due to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other cognitive impairments, can be emotionally and physically taxing for family members. As the primary caregivers, they often face significant challenges in managing their loved one's needs while balancing other responsibilities. In such situations, memory care services play a crucial role not only in supporting individuals with memory loss but also in providing much-needed relief and support for caregivers.
Understanding Caregiver Stress: Caring for someone with memory loss is a full-time commitment that can lead to caregiver stress and burnout. Constantly managing medications, assisting with daily activities, ensuring safety, and coping with behavioral changes can take a toll on caregivers' physical and emotional well-being. Many caregivers also experience feelings of guilt, isolation, and exhaustion as they navigate the complexities of caring for their loved ones.
The Importance of Respite: Memory care services offer caregivers the opportunity for respite, allowing them to take breaks from their caregiving duties and attend to their own needs. Whether it's for a few hours, a day, or an extended period, respite care provides caregivers with much-needed time to rest, recharge, and rejuvenate. During this time, caregivers can engage in self-care activities, attend appointments, socialize with friends, or simply take a break from their caregiving responsibilities.
Professional Support and Expertise: Memory care services are staffed by trained professionals who specialize in caring for individuals with memory loss. These professionals have the knowledge, skills, and experience to meet the unique needs of individuals with cognitive impairments. By entrusting their loved ones to memory care facilities, caregivers can have peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are receiving quality care in a safe and supportive environment.
Tailored Care Plans: Memory care services provide personalized care plans tailored to the individual needs and preferences of each resident. Care plans may include assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, cognitive stimulation activities, and social engagement opportunities. By ensuring that care plans are customized to meet the specific needs of residents, memory care services can effectively support individuals with memory loss and enhance their quality of life.
Emotional Support and Connection: In addition to practical assistance, memory care services also offer emotional support and companionship for residents. Caregivers can take comfort in knowing that their loved ones are not only receiving physical care but also emotional support from compassionate staff members. Through meaningful interactions, social activities, and therapeutic interventions, memory care services foster a sense of connection and belonging for residents, which can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
